Launch of new Malawi Honey cooperative

Malawi Honey Cooperative Union Officially Launched

A major milestone was achieved on 29 June 2026 during Co-op fortnight, with the official launch of the Regional Honey Cooperative Union in Mzuzu, following its successful registration through support from OurCoop’s Malawi_Partnership initiative.

Board Chairperson John Harawa described the union as a game-changer for the honey sector, strengthening regional markets while driving national growth. He thanked OurCoop for its longstanding support and called for continued investment in Malawi’s cooperative movement.

The launch brought together government representatives, cooperative leaders, and development partners. Including guest of Honour Dr Bright Molande, Principal Secretary for Industrialisation, who welcomed the union’s registration as a strong example of Malawi’s industrialisation agenda in action, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting small-scale industries.

Malawi Federation of Cooperatives Executive Director John Mulangeni-Nkosi reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to building resilient, self-sustaining, and impactful cooperatives.

The Regional Honey Cooperative Union is the fourth secondary cooperative union established through Our_Malawi_Partnership joining unions in rice and tea sectors across Malawi.
